Hi, I'm Kate
I'm a psychotherapist and personal trainer based in Nottingham.
Whether you're looking for an experienced therapist or a 1-to-1 personal trainer, who truly understands that sometimes the barriers to exercise aren't just physical, you're in the right place!
How I can help
Therapy
I offer counselling to adult individuals and couples from a comfortable therapy room in the centre of West Bridgford. Sessions can be in person or online meaning I can work with anyone across the UK.
Personal Training
I also provide 1-to-1 training sessions to anyone 16+ from a small, friendly, private gym in Colwick.
Mind & Movement
I created Kate Ashton Mind & Movement to combine the two areas of my work; mental health and physical wellbeing.
To me, the two areas go hand in hand. Positive mental wellbeing can be strengthened and sustained through consistent, effective movement, just as neglecting your physical fitness can significantly impact your mental health.
I've been a therapist for a long time and over the years I've found myself increasingly supporting clients to move more. Helping them find ways of exercising that can reduce symptoms of anxiety, improve sleep, manage stress, boost mood and build self-esteem.
I've always enjoyed being active and training in some capacity, whether it be running, taking part in group classes or doing my own individual workouts in the gym, so qualifying as a personal trainer seemed like a natural progression.
When you work with me
You’ll get a service that’s focused on what you’re looking for with the added benefit of experience across both mental health and physical wellbeing.
As a therapist
I offer a supportive space to explore whatever you’re going through. Whether we're working individually or as a couple with your partner, we'll work at your pace to explore the challenges you're facing.
Where it’s helpful, I can also bring an understanding of how movement and lifestyle can support mental wellbeing — not as pressure or expectation, but as an option we can explore together.
I understand that even the idea of starting something like exercise can feel overwhelming. If it comes up in our work, we can find approaches that feel manageable, realistic and right for you.
As a trainer
I’ll support you in building strength, confidence and consistency in a way that works for you.
I also understand that the barriers to exercise aren’t always physical. Feeling anxious about getting started, struggling with motivation, or feeling overwhelmed are all completely valid and we can work through those together.
You might already feel comfortable in a gym, but worry that a PT will push you too far or take a one-size-fits-all approach.
I won’t do that!
Real, lasting progress comes from feeling safe, supported and understood. My approach is about working with you to help you build confidence in what your body can do.
You wont get
Therapy in a gym
Push ups (or any other exercise) in a therapy session
The two areas of my work are kept separate.
Because of the nature of therapy, I’m unable to work with therapy clients in any other capacity—so I can’t be both your therapist and your trainer.
However, each area of my work informs and strengthens the other, allowing me to bring a well-rounded perspective to everything I do.
